EMR USA – part of EMR, a global leader in sustainable materials – is supporting the families of children undergoing hospital treatment by sponsoring a room at a new purpose-built accommodation building in the heart of New Orleans.

Opening in December, the new Ronald McDonald House – located within walking distance of Children’s Hospital New Orleans – replaces an existing building on the edge of city, making it easier for families to visit their loved ones during their stay. It will also provide a place to stay for young patients between appointments.

Meeting Ronald McDonald

The five-year sponsorship agreement with Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana (RMH-SLA) will see EMR USA donate $10,000.

RMHC-SLA has worked with local children’s health care providers since 1983, keeping families together and near their medical care when their children are ill or injured. Today, RMHC-SLA serves critically ill children through both Ronald McDonald House and its Ronald McDonald Hospitality Cart foodbank initiative, providing housing, meals and psychosocial support to 20,000 families since the first RMHC-SLA opened its doors.

The sponsorship follows a partnership between EMR USA and RMHC-SLA as part of its popular pop-cap recycling initiative. Schools across the New Orleans and Lafayette area can now collect the caps on soft drinks and deliver them to EMR USA’s Mid City and Lafayette sites – where they can be sustainably recycled with funds from the material going directly to RMHC-SLA.

EMR USA has also pledged volunteer time to support RMHC-SLA projects.

Tony Schultz, ESG Manager at EMR USA, said:

“Looking after your child when they are ill or injured is a nightmare scenario for any parent and the last thing that families should be worrying about is the cost and availability of accommodation while a young person is busy receiving treatment and getting better.

“I’m incredibly proud that EMR USA is standing alongside the Ronald McDonald Charities of South Louisiana as they open their new accommodation building. From December, families will be staying in the EMR USA-sponsored room, providing them with everything they need throughout their child’s hospital stay.

“EMR USA is a community-focused business and this is just the latest example of our commitment to the people of New Orleans and the wider Gulf Coast region.”
